In the Malaysian context, Malaysians (be they teachers or learners) were immersed and even “awashed” in the communicative approach since 1970. The practical results of English proficiency and usage among Malaysians are still insignificant till today. The CLT Approach doesn’t work in ALL environments. Foreigners require a different approach encompassing all the branches of the English language. And the one branch of the English language that the foreigner must know is its grammar.
