Can REAL communication between sender and receiver take place when both parties struggle to communicate in the said language? Shouldn’t one then be skilled in the said language in all its four skills before embarking on a programme in communication? The central idea in communication concerning all languages is very simple – competence in the said language. When one is not skilled in the mode of communication that is language, one will naturally spew out unnecessary details which are not relevant to the occasion. In short, one is reduced to utter like an automaton.

Thus, language comes before communication.
